Working Nights Tip: The Caffeine & Nap Combo

If you’re tired, your first thought might be to drink a caffeinated beverage. However, what most people don’t know is that it usually takes about 20-30 minutes for that caffeine to start working in your body. Therefore, caffeine is not an instant fix – a fact that is very important to remember if you’re experiencing fatigue while driving or performing some other safety sensitive task. Perhaps a better strategy for dealing with fatigue is the caffeine and nap combo. Here’s how it works. After having a cup of coffee, try taking a taking a brief 15-20 minute nap. (If you’re already

tired this should be a very welcome relief.) When you wake up, the caffeine will start kicking in and boost the alertness effects of the nap. This caffeine and nap combo will keep you safe while you’re tired and leave you feeling even more alert than just drinking another

caffeinated beverage. Looking for more Working Nights Tips, subscribe to our Working Nights Newsletter.
